For the Love of Libraries

February is National Library Lovers Month. And if ever there was a month to celebrate, it is this one.

As a library lover from a very young age, here are my favorite memories from the libraries I love:

Trips with my grandmothers – these amazing ladies would take me and my siblings to visit, read, and play. I still remember the voices they would make up as they read me a book, and the way their loving hands would slowly turn the page to reveal the next scene. I cherish those memories and am so thankful that they shared their love of reading with me at such a young age. Ah, the good old days... @NorrisvilleLibrary &@RuthEnlowLibraryofGarrettCounty.

As a brand new mom, my local library was a refuge for me and my newborn. The week after she was born, my husband broke ground to double the size of our 1800’s farmhouse. Like, with his own hands, and the help of family and friends. To escape the construction, my little one and I would head to the library for a visit. With a spacious and quiet children’s area, it was a safe place for her to learn and explore. And now that she's in school, her little sister loves to meet new friends while building blocks, putting on a puppet show and reading classic stories. And I love to check out business books while refining my newest project. Shout out to @Mason-DixonPublicLibrary.

The summer reading program, both as a child and now a parent with Kindergartner, is everything. Add to that the amazing outdoor program offered by @YorkCountyLibraries (GO York), and we have created so many memories. It’s such a great partnership with our parks system. Me and my girls, we highly recommend it.

Hosting and attending events at the library have been life giving. As a nonprofit manager, we held many, MANY, public input sessions at @GuthrieMemorialLibrary-Hanover'sPublicLibrary to gain input and eventually launch a Main Street program. And now, with my kids, we so enjoy the truck zoos, STEM programming and an art exhibits. There’s always something to look forward to at @PaulSmithLibraryofSouthernYorkCounty.

With all the good that libraries bring into the world, let's join together to spread the love. Stop in to your favorite location, or go on an adventure to explore a new one.
